Drake Breaks His Duck For Arsenal On This Day, 24th March 1934

A win over Wolverhampton Wanderers from 1934 today, notable for being the full debut of Ted Drake. He gave notice of what was to come with a goal. Drake had joined the club for £6,500 (approximately £350,000 today) shortly before this match, having been coveted by Herbert Chapman several years before; George Allison eventually succeeded in securing his signature.

Cliff Bastin scored one of the others whilst Alex James scored his first goal since 1st April 1933, a week shy of a year long goal drought ended in this 3-2 victory.
