Pawn In The Game: Arsenal On This Day, 29th March 1959

This morning, a different aspect of the club’s history; a more human element if you like. Mel Charles signed from Swansea Town in 1959 with David Dodson (along with Peter Davies) going the other way as part of the deal. Below is a take on his version of the story. He would ultimately sign for Swansea but his career never seemed to take off; who knows what would have happened had he remained at Arsenal. Would he have finished his playing days in 1966, aged just 26 years?
