Penalty Failure For Arsenal On This Day, 14th May 1980

Penalty shootouts have never been too happy for Arsenal in European finals at least. Brussels has never been a happy hunting ground for Arsenal either but in 1970 there was a chance to put matters right at Highbury.

Arsenal dominated but couldn’t make the chances count during the match itself. As for the penalties, the Valencia ‘keeper seems just to take standing on the line and not moving before each of the kicks as an advisory rather than being the Laws of the Game at the time.

Painful memories, the last time many of us witness Liam Brady in an Arsenal shirt.
