Arsenal Then And Now On This Day, 31st July 1934

Barely twenty-four hours after the death of Sir Henry Norris, the AGM for 1934 was held. An interesting anecdote comes through with the production of the 1904 Balance Sheet which showed the sum of £540 had been spent on players previously. The club was at its peak for the era and had spent £17,313 the previous year on players. The two sums in today’s money are £45,400 and £959,000; that increase in spending power arose through the success of the early 1930s but that twenty-fold increase underlines how far the club had come.
