Jack Kelsey Wants Out Of Arsenal On This Day, 28th August 1958

Having received plaudits for his performances at the World Cup during the summer, Jack Kelsey submitted his second transfer request. The echoes resonate through time with similar complaints about the direction of the club to those voiced by Robin van Persie this summer.

As with now, the Arsenal board were prepared to see a key player depart if the price was right. The difference is that nobody was willing to meet the club’s £250,000 asking price (£15.8m in 2012) so Kelsey remained at the club.

  1. “…nobody was willing to meet the club’s £250,000 asking price (£15.8m in 2012) so…”

    £25,000… NOT £250,000.
Does that alter the sum of £15.8m (in 2012)?… I’ll leave that one to you.

Excellent bit of History as always. Big Thanks

  2. The parallels with RVP are fascinating. The differences are just as revealing. A part time job…. Got a job making footballs so not bothered about pay… wrote to the Secretary by recorded delivery ..and he asked for a transfer! RVP and any other greedy sods please note.

Do we know why he was unhappy?
