Historic Arsenal Win Over West Bromwich Albion On This Day, 15th September 1934

Not that the key protagonists knew it at the time but this was the last game for the club in which Cliff Bastin, Alex James and Ted Drake scored in the same match. They would score plenty of goals between them before the commencement of the Second World War but this one, well, looking back it is seeping history through every turn.

And if you think that was five years away, it is astonishing that three supremely talented players would be able to avoid a recurrence!

  1. There’s something nagging in the back of my mind about this game. I’m sure there was something else of significance about but, for the life of me, I can’t think what it is.
