Arsenal Record Their First Top Flight Win On This Day, 24th September 1904

Arsenal’s first season in the top flight of English football had not started brightly. Beaten 0 – 3 at Newcastle on the opening day of the season, they failed to breach the Preston and Middlesbrough defences as they struggled to recapture their promotion form. One point from their opening three games and nerves must have been on edge against a Wolves team which had won three of their opening four and were in fifth place.

Goals from Charlie Satterthwaite and Tim Coleman gave Arsenal the victory in the first meeting between the two sides in a competitive match.
