Poor Sportsmanship From The Woolwich Arsenal Captain On This Day, 10th October 1904

It was a big thing back in the day, sportsmanship. The Corinthian attitude – or was it considered Casual then – where the field of play was about honour. The crowd it seems were none too impressed either, “hooting” their displeasure at Jimmy Jackson, the Arsenal captain.

I can see a similar reaction today, except this time it would be directed at Stansfield of Spurs with most convinced he would be diving. Presuming of course, that the ground had not emptied with such a scoreline!
