77 years on and Ted Drake’s scoring feat is still the the most goals in an English top flight game, a record jointly shared with James Ross of Preston. Eleven days later, Bell of Tranmere scored nine in their match against Oldham Athletic to raise the record for individual goals in a game whilst on 13th April 1936, Joe Payne set the yet-to-be-bettered record of 10 goals for Luton against Bristol Rovers.
