An experiment by Arsenal that saw Friday night football arrive half a decade before the BBC would introduce live matches on television. Judging by the fare on offer, it was not a great match and the report notes that the attendance was 10,000 less than the average attendance that season.
Eight months previously, 28,885 had watched the corresponding fixture in the 1978-79 season. Ten months on, 1980-81s encounter between the two sides drew a crowd of just 21,839. This match though, remains the lowest attendance for an Arsenal home match in the league against Norwich City to date.
