I suppose, in theory, Arsenal were in danger of relegation, seven points clear of Bury who occupied 19th place at kick-off. Four games to go meant eight points up for grabs and a possible return to Division Two. A comfortable win ensued and that potential problem went away. Bury won their final three games, scoring eleven, conceding none and escaped relegation by finishing 17th, one point clear of Nottingham Forest who fell through the trapdoor with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
