Arsenal Hit For Six At Elland Road On This Day, 9th May 1973

A miserable run of three draws and a home defeat to defending champions, Derby County, took Arsenal’s title fate out of their own hands. This was the final match of the season with nothing to play for, Leeds too far behind to catch Arsenal, who in turn could not catch Champions, Liverpool.

The irony of Leeds United supporters booing Arsenal on the basis of poor sporting behaviour is probably lost on those who followed a team which specialised in killing games through boredom and niggling, persistent foul play.
