Arsenal Will Not Enter The League Cup On This Day, 22nd July 1960

Alan Hardaker’s pet project had been relatively well-received but six clubs held firm, refusing to enter for the congestion it would bring to the fixture list. With the League still not wholly behind English clubs participating in the youthful European Club competitions yet, it was little surprise that they chose to launch their own cup.

Perhaps more interesting in a wider football perspective is the note of the PFAs dispute over maximum wages.
